Following yesterdays big defeat and the longest rest in the tournament the Great Britain squad were determined to deliver an improved performance and competitiveness against tournament favourites Estonia. With the stadium full and a small but vocal GB Cheer squad the first period saw an organized Estonia look to control the game early but could not convert. Great Britain defending brilliantly, and both teams limited to single figure opportunities at goal. Estonia making a the final breakthrough ending the period 1-0.
As expected, the second period saw Estonia come out firing with another goal in the first minute. True to the determination of GB, through Oscar Towers, Player of the Game, equalized within the next two minutes with a perfectly timed volley off a loose ball keeping GB in the game. Estonia quickly responded and maintained a constant attack with 20 shots on goal to 7 yet GB only conceding another 2 goals to finish at 5-1.
The final period saw GB rest a few key players and introduce a revitalized line 3 to the mix. Estonia continued their constant press yet GB again demonstrated their fighting spirit and defensive ability and even created a few opportunities to score finishing the game at 7-1. Whilst the win was out of reach today the squad recognized their improved performance and will take this into their last two games against Slovenia and Hungary hoping to secure a couple of wins in the tournament.

GB Assistant Coach Martin Horry reflected on the team’s play, “We are happy with the improved performance today, the whole team were able to stay focused and most importantly worked for each other from start to finish. Players were increasingly refocused to follow their roles and realize the foundation of teamwork is built on individual behaviours.”
GB’s Player of the Match Oscar Towers said, ”It was a very tough game against Estonia but we put up a really good fight. We had our moments in the game but it wasn’t enough to beat such a good team. I’m happy with GBs performance and let’s win the next one.”
